Had another excellent rental at West Maui Cycles today. Reserved bike online, picked it up when they opened and bought the Hammer Nutrition stuff I needed. Bike was sized correctly and worked like it should. Rode loop clockwise to farm at top of hill past some art gallery and turned around to ride back to shop. This might be the 4th or 5th time I've rented here and it's always been great. Thank you very much!

Just rented a 56 cm Specialized Roubaix Sport and rode the West Maui loop. The weather wasnt the best and West Maui Cycles were helpful in giving recommendations on possible routes. I ended up doing the West Maui loop CW per their rec, at just over 60 miles for me and 4800 ft. Views were amazing. I had huge winds gusts 30-50mph, intermittent driving rain. The Roubaix was a very stable bike in the rain and wind. West Maui Cycles had set it up perfectly. I had zero issues with the bicycle, the 105 group set worked great and the disc brakes were very competent/kept me in control on the wet descents and curves. They installed and removed my speedplay pedals w/o any damage. Hopefully my next trip I'll get luckier with the weather but will definitely use West Maui Cycles again.

Short: Fantastic service, great rental bike, friendly and helpful staff. Longer: I visited Maui in June 2021, and one of the activities I planned was a bike ride up Haleakala. Based on personal recommendation, I booked a bike from West Maui Cycles for 3 days (one day to pick up, one day to ride, one day to return). When I came to pick the bike up, helpful staff member told me I am doing it all wrong, and that I should get a cheaper bike with better climbing gearing (win #1). Further, they said I should just pick it up at the end of my "day 1", ride on "day 2" and return at opening time on "day 3", because they have a "Haleakala Special" pricing for that (one day + a reasonable "late return" fee) - win #2. Finally, they inquired as to my nutrition plan, and advised me it was not enough, and that I should bring (a lot) more food than I planned (win #3). IF you are planning to ride Haleakala: - Rent from West Maui Cycles - Tell them you are doing it, and listen to the advice - Their website is INCREDIBLY informative Bike: I ended up with their Specialized Roubaix Sport, with Shimano 105 groupset and 50-34 / 11-34 gearing, which was a fantastic machine for the climb.
